What to Expect
Straight answers to the questions we get asked most.
How long do the workshops take?
It depends on the workshop. Introduction to Welding runs for 3 hours. Sign Creation with a Plasma Cutter and Desktop Sculptures are still being timed, so check each workshop's page for the confirmed duration.
How much does it cost?
Introduction to Welding is $220 per person. Pricing for Sign Creation with a Plasma Cutter and Desktop Sculptures is still being confirmed. The price shown on each workshop's page when you book is exactly what you pay.
Where are the workshops held?
We're based in the Boranup / Margaret River Region, WA. We don't publish our exact address online. Once you've booked, we'll send you directions.
What should I wear?
Wear a long sleeve cotton shirt, jeans and leather boots. No polyester or other synthetic fabrics, because they can melt. You do not need certified fire resistant gear, just natural fibres that cover you up. We supply a welding helmet, gloves and safety glasses.
Is welding safe for beginners?
Yes. Full safety gear is provided, and we run through everything before the torch is even switched on. Matty has over 25 years of welding and fabrication experience and keeps safety front and centre in every session.
Do I need to sign anything?
Yes. You will sign a safety waiver when you arrive. It is signed on paper at the workshop, so there is nothing to sign online beforehand. For anyone under 18, the parent or guardian who comes with them signs it on their behalf.
Do I need any experience?
No experience needed at all. Every workshop starts from zero, and most of our guests have never touched a welder before.
How many people can join a session?
Sessions run as private 1:1, couples, or small groups, with a maximum of about 6 people per session.
Is there a minimum age?
Minimum age is 15. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who needs to stay for the whole class and sign the safety waiver on their behalf. Parents and guardians do not need to book or pay for a spot. They just need to be there.
How do I book?
Online booking is coming soon. You can see upcoming sessions on our Book page now, and get in touch through our enquiry form in the meantime and we will help you sort a time.
Can I get a refund or change my class date?
Bookings are not refundable. If you cannot make your class, get in touch at least 72 hours before it starts and we will move you to another available date, subject to availability.
Can I book as a couple, a private group or one to one?
Yes. Every workshop can run as a private one to one session, for a couple, or for a small group. Send us a message through the contact form telling us who's coming and roughly when, and we'll get back to you to sort it out.
Can you cater for accessibility or other individual needs?
Please get in touch before you book so we can talk through what's practical and safe for you. Send us a message through the contact form and we'll go through it with you.
Can I fit a workshop into a Margaret River trip?
Yes. Introduction to Welding runs for 3 hours, so it fits into a day alongside the rest of your plans. We're in the Boranup / Margaret River Region and sessions run by booking, so check the Book page for upcoming dates, or send us a message through the contact form to ask about a time that suits your trip.
